The music will be drawn from that written, mostly in the 18th century,
for performance in church with the accompaniment of a band in the
west gallery. Singers, strings, 18th century wind instruments and
an organist are welcome. Pitch will be A440 - those whose instruments
are normally at A415 are asked to retune them at least 24 hours in
advance, to avoid tuning problems on the day. Sorry, Peter has asked
for no recorders, so bring your voice or that serpent youve
got hidden in the attic instead.
Peter Holman is director of the Parley of Instruments and the choir
Psalmody, musical director of Opera Restor'd and of Leeds Baroque
Orchestra. He has taught at many conservatories, universities, summer
schools and workshops in Britain and abroad, and is Reader in Musicology
at Leeds University.
We will start with coffee and registration at 10.00 am and finish
about 5 p.m. Lunch will be from about 12.30 until 1.45 and as usual
at our Christmas event will be communal and you are asked to bring
a contribution - savoury if your surname starts with I to Z and sweet
if it starts with A to H. A glass of wine or juice will be provided
as will bread and butter.
