RedTitan are leaders in barcode technology for high-volume database printing — one of the big challenges for the application programmer. We now offer two routes for creating dynamic barcodes in documents:

• Using RedTitan escapeE, datafields in PCL documents are transformed into barcodes.
• Using RedTitan document design system, dynamic barcodes are built into documents at the design stage.

In both cases, documents can then be routed to the dynamic document formatter — the only system on the market that formats dynamic barcodes on-the-fly. We link the output from the database or report writer to the barcode and automatically generate the printer commands to format the correct barcodes.

Transform fields to barcodes
With the RedTitan PCL Viewer and Transformer EscapeE, users can add barcodes into documents output with a PCL printer from any Windows application (e.g. Microsoft Word). EscapeE shows a screen view of the PCL file and users simple draw round the area of the page where there is a data field (e.g. a reference number) then link it to a barcode. The job can then be run to a PCL printer or transformed into a wide range of other formats, such as PDF, TIFF, PNG, IMG, AFP, XML, CSV.

PCL files can be transferred for printing at production speeds via the RedTitan document formatter.

Build barcodes into documents
Using the RedTitan document design system, barcodes are as easy to use in documents as any normal font.

When designing layouts with the system, users select a barcode font and link it to the barcode data field. Like any part of the document, conditions can be attached to the barcode, so that the layout is customised to the data. A sample barcode is initially shown on screen, but when users merge in the data file they can scroll through the job and get a perfect view of the actual variable barcodes. As an additional check, proofs can be easily run to a desktop printer.

When the document is output for production laser printing, the RedTitan software selects character sets, calculates check characters and generates all the required printer commands. The job can be run on any type of printer, including Xerox VIPP, or transferred to the RedTitan document formatter which manages dynamic reformatting in Metacode, PCL or PostScript.
